          Once we've talked and an inspection makes sense, we'll find a time that works for your schedule. Not just ours—yours.

           After the inspection, I'll take some time to go over my notes and put together a proposal. And you'll get that the same

          day, before we leave.

          Starting a business while working full-time isn't easy. Going full-time in that business is terrifying. But you know what's scarier? Spending your whole life working for someone else and wondering "what if."

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          I spent years working for national companies in the home services industry. Learned a lot. Made good money. Got really good at the technical side of foundation repair and crawl space work.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          But here's what I also learned: when you work for a big corporation, the pressure isn't about quality. It's about numbers.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Average ticket size. Closure rates. Revenue per appointment. How many jobs can you close this week? What's your conversion rate? Did you hit your quota?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          That pressure trickles down to every customer interaction. You're not just solving their problem—you're trying to hit a number. And sometimes, a lot of times, that means selling things people don't really need. Pushing bigger solutions than necessary. Pricing jobs at corporate rates that make homeowners' jaws drop.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          I watched crews rush through installations because they had three more jobs that day. Saw corners get cut because the schedule didn't allow time to do it right. Watched quality take a backseat to speed and volume.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          And I just couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't keep selling inflated solutions to good people just because corporate needed to hit quarterly targets.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          So we started My Guys with a different idea: do excellent work, charge fair prices, and actually care about the outcome.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          What Working for the Big Companies Taught Me
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Starting Small While Honoring Our Word 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          We officially started My Guys in October 2024, but I was still working full-time
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           at the foundation company. That meant evenings, weekends, whatever time I could carve out to start building something of our own.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          And here's the thing: I was in a non-compete. Couldn't do crawl space or foundation work yet. So we started with handyman jobs. Fixing the things people needed fixed around their houses. Replacing ceiling fans, fixing outlets, repairing leaky faucets. Nothing glamorous.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          But you know what? We loved it. Every small job was a chance to build trust with someone in our community. To show up when we said we would. To do quality work and clean up completely. To treat people's homes with respect.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          By May 2025, we'd built enough momentum that I could take the leap and go full-time. Just handyman work at that point, but it was enough. We were helping people, doing good work, and building a reputation.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          Then later in 2025, the non-compete ended. And we could finally do what we'd been preparing for all along: crawl space encapsulation and foundation repair.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Here's what we're not trying to do: become the biggest crawl space company in Central Illinois. Run ten crews across three states. Franchise the business. Get bought out by some private equity firm.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          We're trying to build something we want to be proud of. Something we can sustain for decades without burning out or compromising our standards.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          That means Chris or I will be on your job. Not some crew we hired last month. Not subcontractors we've never met. Us. The owners. The guys whose names are on the truck.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          We're not the cheapest option out there. But we're nowhere near what the big national brands charge—and our quality stands up to anyone's. When you compare our work piece by piece, detail by detail, it's just better. Because we actually care about the outcome, not just the paycheck.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          We take the time to do things right. We don't rush to the next appointment. We clean up completely. We answer our phones. We show up when we say we will. We explain what we're doing and why it matters.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This shouldn't be revolutionary. But apparently it is, because homeowners tell us all the time they can't believe we actually did what we promised.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          That's not us being exceptional. That's just us giving a damn. And it turns out that's rare enough to build a business on.

          Chris and I have lived in Mahomet our entire lives. We've known each other since fourth grade. This isn't just where we work—it's home.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          Your reputation isn't something you manage on Google reviews. It's what people say about you at the coffee shop. It's whether your neighbor recommends you to their friend. It's whether you can look people in the eye around town.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          We're not building a business to sell someday. We're building something we want to run for the next 20 years. Something our kids can be proud of when they're older. Something Mahomet can count on.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          What keeps you going when the work gets hard? When you're in a 140-degree attic in July, or crawling through a freezing crawl space in January, or it's 10 PM and you're still not done—what's your why?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          At the time, I didn't have a good answer. I was just trying to make a living, figure things out, find my way after losing everything in my previous business.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          But that question stuck with me. And eventually, I found my answer.

          I haven't always done crawl space work. For a long time, I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          I spent my younger years in a family RV business. We made good money. Then the recession hit, and we lost everything—literally millions of dollars gone. The business closed. My relationship with my dad was a mess. It was a dark time.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          After that, I bounced around for almost a decade. Started online businesses. Did lead generation work. Consulted for local companies. Tried to build something, anything, that felt right. I was like a jellyfish—just drifting, trying to find direction.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Got into HVAC in 2017 because I needed a job. Didn't even know what an evaporator coil was when I started. But somewhere in that work, I fell in love with home services. Learned about indoor air quality because my wife has an autoimmune disease. Started understanding how homes actually work.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          And slowly, all those years of wandering started to make sense. Every job, every failure, every lesson—it was all leading me here.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The Wandering Years

          The Answer I Found 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So back to that question: what keeps you going when things get hard?
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Here's my answer: I want to be the type of man my wife Joanna wants our daughters to marry. And I want to be the type of man she wants our son to become.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          That's it. That's what drives me.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          I'm not gonna lie—it gets emotional even thinking about it. Because for a lot of my life, I wasn't that man. I made mistakes. I took shortcuts. I chased money instead of character. I let people down, including myself.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          But that standard—being someone my kids can look up to—it changes everything.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          When I don't want to get out of bed on a cold morning, I ask myself: am I being the man Joanna wants Josie, Olivia, and Kaitlyn to marry? If the answer's no, I give myself a kick in the ass and get moving.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          When a job gets harder than expected and I'm tempted to cut a corner nobody would see, I ask the same question.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          When I'm tired and just want to wrap up and go home, but the cleanup isn't quite finished—same question.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          It works every single time. Because it's not about being perfect. It's about trying to be someone my family can be proud of. And that means showing up, doing the right thing, and treating people the way they deserve to be treated.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;

&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;

          Here's the connection: the standard I hold for myself as a man directly affects the standard we hold for our work.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          If I want to be someone my kids look up to, I can't be the kind of contractor who leaves trash in your crawl space. I can't rush through cleanup because I'm already thinking about the next job. I can't treat your home like it doesn't matter just because you're not standing there watching me work.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Every job we do is a reflection of who we are. And I want that reflection to be something I'm proud of.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          I got a call from a realtor friend recently. She'd already had floor supports installed under an investment property here in Mahomet. Paid thousands for it. But the floors were still sagging and bouncing.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          She knows we do crawl space work, and she wanted a second opinion. So I went over and crawled under the house. And I had to have one of the hardest conversations you can have with a customer: the work you paid for didn't actually fix anything.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          One of the jacks was loose enough to jiggle by hand. The "beam" was just a single 4x4. Nothing was on proper bases. Only two supports where there should have been at least six.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          This shouldn't happen. But it does—more often than you'd think. And it's why I'm writing this.

          The first thing I noticed was movement. I put my hand on one of the jacks and pushed. It moved. A properly installed floor support shouldn't budge at all—it's carrying thousands of pounds of load.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Then I looked at what they were calling a "support beam." It was a single 4x4 piece of lumber. That's not a beam. That's a post. And it can't distribute load the way a real beam needs to.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The jacks themselves weren't sitting on proper bases. They were just placed on the dirt. Over time, those were going to sink—and they already were.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          And there were only two of them. For a kitchen floor that was visibly sloping and bouncing when you walked on it, two supports weren't anywhere close to enough.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This wasn't a situation where the work was done okay but needed a little adjustment. This was work that was never going to solve the problem. Looking like it and actually doing the job are two very different things.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          What We Found Under the House
         &#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Why Improper Floor Supports Fail
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Here's the thing about floor support work: physics doesn't care about good intentions or low bids. It only cares whether the structure can actually carry the load.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          A single 4x4 post can't distribute weight the same way a properly built beam can. When you're supporting a section of floor—especially under a kitchen where you've got cabinets, appliances, and people walking around—you need a beam that spans across multiple floor joists and distributes that load evenly.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Then there's the base problem. When you set a jack directly on dirt or loose soil, it's going to sink over time. Especially in Central Illinois where we get freeze-thaw cycles and soil movement. Without a proper concrete footer or composite base, those jacks slowly settle into the ground.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          The spacing issue is just as critical. Two jacks might have been enough if the problem was small and localized. But for a kitchen floor with noticeable sag and bounce, you need supports placed strategically to lift and hold the entire affected area.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So what looked "fixed" to the original contractor was never going to stay fixed. It was a temporary illusion that would fail slowly over months or years.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          When we came back to redo this job, here's what we actually did. First, we pulled out the inadequate supports. Then we built real beams—multiple plies of 2x8 lumber fastened together. This creates a beam strong enough to span the distance and distribute weight properly across several floor joists.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          We used fully adjustable galvanized jacks rated for the loads they'll be carrying. The adjustment mechanism lets us lift the floor gradually and precisely—you don't want to jack everything up at once. You lift slowly, let the house settle, come back and adjust.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Every jack sits on a proper base—either a concrete footer we pour or a heavy-duty composite pad designed not to sink. For this job, we installed six jacks instead of two, positioned to support the beam at the right intervals.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          We warranty all of it for the life of the structure. Not one year, not five years—as long as that house is standing. Because when it's done right, we know it's not going to fail.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          This property is an investment for my realtor friend. She wanted to get the floor supports handled first, then come back later this year for a full crawl space encapsulation. Smart plan—fix the urgent structural issue, then address moisture when cash flow allows.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          This is what happens when you hire based solely on price. The cheapest bid isn't always the best value—especially when it means paying someone else to redo the work properly.

          While we were down there, I noticed the crawl space entrance was a mess. It was cut into a window well, awkward to access, and whoever installed it didn't bother supporting the floor joist above the opening. They just cut the access hole and walked away.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          So I dug it out properly, built a frame to support that joist, and made the entrance actually functional. Because if we're going to be back later this year to encapsulate the space, someone needs to be able to get in and out without gymnastics.
         &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          These are the kinds of things you notice when you actually care about the whole house, not just the specific task you were hired for. Good contractors see problems and fix them.
